INTACH Listings
Heritage listing is an exercise that prepares an inventory of buildings of historical, architectural or archaeological merit and recording its present condition and threats to the structure. Inventories are useful for prioritization for conservation, identification for tourism potential and routes, consideration in planning development projects and ultimately for notifying them for conservation.
INTACH from its inception has recognized the issues related to the plight of the unprotected buildings throughout India and taken up the process of listing program. There are about fifty two thousand buildings in around one hundred seventy cities that have been listed by INTACH so far.
IDC has around four hundred volumes of listings which cover around fifty two thousand built and natural heritage sites in Indian districts, cities and towns.
